Begun 1519 with rules drawn in 1618 and a permanent endowment given in 1669, this 482 year old race traditionally takes place in March and covers 4 miles of public roads in Yorkshire, England. Open to all riders, all ages, all breeds, astride or sidesaddle. Photo albums of past events, winners, and race history. Due to cancellation by a nationwide Hoof and Mouth disease in 2001, the race was walked by one horse and rider to ensure continuation of the unbroken record.
