Established in July 1997. Responsible for arts, broadcasting, the press, museums and galleries, libraries, sport and recreation, historic buildings and ancient monuments, tourism the music industry, and the National Lottery.

Promotes the UK's archival collections.

Set up in 1934 to promote British culture abroad.
