Travel Insurance

When people live their lives constantly thinking bad things are about to happen to them, they are normally called paranoid and avoided by the majority of society. However, we are constantly told that we, as individuals, need all kinds of insurance in case those same unfortunate occasions befall us. Some of these insurances, such as motorcar insurance, are even required by the law, but then if you had ever seen the M6 during rush hour then you would take the most comprehensive motoring insurance you could afford anyway, legal requirement or not.

Something that is slightly harder to justify the cost of is travel insurance, after all, how likely are you to hurt yourself lounging on a lilo for two weeks? The truth is that it’s not so much how likely you are to have an accident, but how life destroyingly expensive it could be if you do. For example, should you be run over by a car you will receive a bill for all of the emergency treatment you have received, and if a serious injury requires medical repatriation then the costs could end up north of £50,000. Despite EU citizens having a modicum of medical cover within its member states, it is still highly recommended to invest the fiver or so to provide proper cover should the worst happen.

Anyone planning on doing anything any more exciting than driving on the motorway should be looking at specialist insurance to make sure they have the appropriate level of cover. Ski insurance is a perfect example of something tailored to a particular kind of holiday, one where normal policies would be declared invalid as you were doing something knowingly dangerous.
